In addition to reading short stories, plays and poems from the text book, several longer works will be covered in depth. These works will be explored to discover their literary qualities and meaning. Students will express their understanding of this literature through projects, presentations, homework, group work, quizzes and tests. Students should draw connections between history, culture, philosophy and what an author writes. Reflective, insightful writing regarding literature will be focused on the achievement of college freshman composition, and will be graded on a progressively harder scale as the year continues.
