Vocabulary and Grammar
- Rudimentary grammar study and ~20 new words each week
Oratory
- One speech per quarter delivered by each student
Literature
In addition to reading short stories, plays and poems from the text book, several longer works will be covered in depth. These works will be explored to discover their literary qualities and meaning. Students will express their understanding of this literature through projects, presentations, homework, group work, quizzes and tests. Moreover, I will be helping the students to see the connection between history, culture, philosophy and what an author writes.
- The Hiding Place by Corrie ten Boom with John & Elizabeth Sherrill
- Pilgrim's Progress in Today's English by John Bunyan
- The Endless Steppe by Esther Hautzig
- Romeo & Juliet by William Shakespeare
- Light in the Forest by Conrad Ritcher
Creative Writing
- A writer's workshop, a music and expression unit and an advertising lesson will also be part of this year's curriculum. I don't want to ruin the fun by giving away too much information here. These units will be saved for "breaks" between longer units.
